Εστιατόριο Φουρόγατος – Δημιουργική Κρητική Κουζίνα

About Restaurant

In the heart of Koum Kapi, right by the sea, the new all-day restaurant Fourogatos has opened its doors to offer a refined and original culinary experience in Chania.

The team behind Fourogatos presents dishes deeply rooted in traditional Cretan cuisine with a creative twist that makes each plate unique. Their approach blends authenticity with imagination, offering flavours you won’t find anywhere else on the island.

The restaurant also boasts an impressive wine list, featuring carefully selected Greek and Cretan labels and local Chaniotiki beer – the perfect match for the bold and elegant flavours on your plate.

With excellent ingredients, warm hospitality, a simple yet tasteful seaside setting, and value-for-money prices, Fourogatos is everything you could ask for in a relaxed lunch or a delightful dinner in Chania.

Salads

Kriteze: Sliced tomato with fresh mizithra cheese from Chania, basil pesto, olive oil, and fresh onion.
Fourogatos: A hearty salad with lettuce, Lola, rocket, tomato, handmade skioufihta pasta, peppers, grilled chicken, fresh onion, grated nuts, graviera cheese, and a sesame & ginger sauce.

Appetisers
Crepe: Filled with apaki, mushrooms, and chicken in a creamy graviera cheese sauce.
Smyrna Kebab: A mildly spicy mix of lamb and veal kebab in pepper sauce, served with yoghurt and pie.
Meat Pie of Chania: A traditional pie with lamb, local cheeses, and sesame.
Melotigano: A rich mix of chicken, pork, spicy local sausage, and peppers in a mustard seed, honey, and cheese sauce.

Main Dishes
Pork or Chicken Kontosouvli: 500g of grilled meat served with fried potatoes, roasted peppers, marinated carrots, and dip.
Undercoat Pork: 500–600g of specially bred pork, marinated for 12 hours and served with fried potatoes, grilled peppers, and a local wine sauce.
Snails with Wheat: A beloved Cretan delicacy.
Velvet Moussaka: This dish is made with minced beef, eggplant, pumpkin, potatoes, and a velvety béchamel-style cream.

These are just a few of the standout dishes at Fourogatos. The menu also includes seafood and other intriguing options.

The name refers to a rare wild Cretan cat that survives in the island’s remote wilderness. Known for its resilience and strength, the Fourogatos (Cretan wildcat) symbolises nature’s bond with the Cretan spirit – wild, proud, and enduring.

5/5 stars! Absolutely stunning, authentic Greek food and a truly vibrant atmosphere. The Moussaka is a creamy, hearty masterpiece—a must-try! Exceptional, warm service makes you feel right at home. An essential Mediterranean experience.

Tasty food, though we expected a bit more. Mostly traditional dishes with a modern twist – not sure that’s always an advantage. Definitely didn’t like apaki. No house wine, but a nice wine list. We appreciated the complimentary raki and orange pie at the end. Nice sea view. Likely to visit again.

Food is incredible and portions are generous. Views onto the sea are beautiful. Service is friendly but sometimes between multiple servers messages got lost. Overall, a culinary highlight of our Crete trip.

This is a truly lovely and traditional spot, situated just a short distance from the sea, which offers wonderful views. The food is exceptionally delicious, expertly prepared, and they also have a good selection of wines to choose from. As a special touch, you'll enjoy complimentary dessert, and of course, a small bottle of raki at the end of the meal.

Good food, good local wines. I would recommend grilled squid and other seafood grills. It is not too crawdy, far away from noisy center, near to seaside, perfect to try multiple dishes, one of my favorite in Chania.
